Recently I’ve been reworking the layout of my portfolio website. Not satisfied with my previous host, I decided to find another web client to better show off my talent. I stumbled across  an awesome site that allows more flexibility  and less code than my previous host. Although the skeleton of my site is complete and ready for launch there are still some bugs I’m trying to work out. I have also decided to  added my business to google maps to draw in more clientele. I was kind of skeptical at listing my information online at first, but the goal of marketing is to reach as many potential clients as possible. An judging from my analytic stats I have already begun to gain local traffic. I am always on the hunt for criticism about my work, so if you have the free time check out my site and let me know what you think.

Haute Lanta Fashion Week 2010 is in full effect. I kicked the evening off by attending a  rooftop cocktail party at the Glenn Hotel with Natasha Wicker of The City Socialite.(citysocialite.wordpress.com) The evening was filled with Designers,Photographers, Models and other professionals in the industry. The eclectic mix of people  and ambient sounds from the dj turned this cocktail party into an interesting evening of networking. To say the least if you were caught without your business card or representation of who you are, you were truly missing out on great opportunities to make serious contacts. I can’t wait to experience the rest of the this weeks events and will keep everyone informed on the happenings.  For more pics of the event head  over to the City Socialite (http://citysocialite.wordpress.com/).

Recently I had the opportunity to shoot with Ms. Tomika Thomas on behalf of The Fashionary. She was the winner for the month of August for The Fashionary’s monthly subscriber contest and was entitled to  a free photo shoot by yours truly.(TheFashionary.net)  We went on location in midtown  Atlanta in the middle of a bustling city during rush hour. I couldn’t have asked for a better scene in which sunlight was excellent  and a busy street led to some interesting shots.  Also on location was Natasha Wicker of the City Socialite handling make up,video and the swatting some annoying mosquitoes. The shoot was a success and I am looking forward to working with Tomika again on future projects involving her ThinkFashion  ThenStyle brand.

Every so often I get burned out from the daily grind of life. Being well rested and stress free is essential for a creative work flow. I often find myself working out or doing photo walks in the city in order to gain inspiration for upcoming projects. Recently I attended Art Mondays at the Apache Cafe. A true gem in the city of Atlanta, this venue gives artist a chance to recharge their batteries and continue their daily grind.

Upon arriving at the location off of Spring st I wasn’t too sure about walking through a deep dank alley at 7pm in the middle of the cities jungle. Instead of being greeted by valet or a host, a gentlemen who introduced himself as Tyrone agreed to watch my car for some pocket change. Ignoring his offer I paid the parking box continued to my destination. Hearing shouts in the background of Tyrone screaming ” Don’t blame me if your gets stolen” made me second guess about not giving him change.

From the outside the building didn’t look like much. When you think of the word whole in the wall this is exactly what comes to mind. But once inside the ambient sounds of Drum and Bass and old school Hip Hop began feel the air. It was like going to the secret blood rave in the movie BLADE. Young professionals were mixing and mingling and enjoying the evening. I was greeted by the curator who politely ask for my cover and gave me a handout on the nights events.

A secret haven for artist is what I found. Figure models stood on pillars as artist sketched, photographed and socialized with each other. I found a seat, ordered a glass of wine and began to relax. I could feel my mind starting to clear as creativity began to flow. The momentum of the night was hitting it’s high and I truly felt inspired to make this a weekly item on my to do list.

As 11 o’clock hit, I could feel the ambiance dying down. It was to time to go home and I felt I had got my fill for the evening.I packed my things and headed back to my car, passing the dank alley once again I saw Tyrone curled up in the corner fast asleep. I got in my car and headed home and thought to myself about the amazing night I just had. After enjoying the evening so much, I am definitely looking forward to making a another trip to the Apache Cafe, a true hidden gem in the city of Atlanta.

Recently  I was contacted by the fashionary to attend a fashion event hosted by The Mahogany Me project. The event detailed  some of latest fashion trends from up and coming designers in the local Atlanta area. Although, the show was a success the styles displayed had an unflattering and recycled appeal. Props go o the models for strutting across the runway and making it down an accident prone flight of stairs in heels with attitude and grace. The host kept live with laughs and even pulling people on stage to a free style rap. Half way through the show the audience was entertained by a songstress that had the unfortunate luck of  being a victim of a faulty sound system. Although, her singing was great, the audience could barely get over the bumble of the speakers. After the event concluded I exchanged business cards with some of the of the models and decided to head home. I thanked the young ladies of the Fashionary for the opportunity to shoot for them  and was asked to come on board as their event photographer. Who knows whats in store for The Fashionary since they’ve decided to give me the opportunity to join their ranks. All I know is that it is a decision that they will not forget.
